NASK implements DNSSEC
Starting from December 2011 NASK offers the .pl domain in DNSSEC secured form (DNS Security Extensions). It is the beginning of implementation the solution that make it more difficult for criminals to deceive users by directing them to fake websites.

World of Internet is based on DNS (Domain Name System). By connecting to any www page, for example: social network or bank and even by using electronic mail, we use domain names without giving any thought on how the process of transforming of DNS to IP (Internet Protocol), to which our computer connects, is performed. We use ciphered electronic mail but we trust that, when entering the domain name of our bank in the browser, we connect to the proper service. In reality it may happen so that, without noticing, we will be redirected to an identical, also protected service which unfortunately does not belong to our bank. Here, by entering our login and password data, we will give a full control of our account to criminals.

However, this danger may be prevented by DNSSEC solution. Since December 2011 NASK has released the .pl domain and other domains serviced (both functional .com.pl, .net.pl and regional like .waw.pl or .wroclaw.pl) in DNSSEC secured form. By securing the DNS information against counterfeit and modification Internet users are protected against attacks that for examples may direct them to fake website of bank and capture ID and password.

„DNSSEC introduces the mechanisms for authorization and control of the immutability data tramsmitted in DNS protocol. The implementation of these mechanisms is an efficient method of increasing the security of, for example, banking or shopping online” – says Micha³ Chrzanowski, Director of NASK. “This technically complex and expensive process is carried out by NASK. In liaison with other projects conducted by NASK, the solution measurably improves the security of the Internet in Poland.” – points Micha³ Chrzanowski.

The DNSSEC implementation process in Poland will be divided into stages and its completion is scheduled for the second quarter of 2012.
