WTD Statuette presented by NASK’s Director to Program 1 of Polskie Radio S.A. for promotion of safe Internet and conscious use of its resources.
On the occasion of the World Telecommunication Day 2005, organized by the Association of Polish Electrical Engineers on 12-13 May 2005 in cooperation with the Ministry of Infrastructure and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), NASK proposed to honor Program 1 of Polskie Radio S.A. with the World Telecommunication Day 2005 Statuette for promotion of safe Internet and conscious use of its resources.
This year’s WTD events accompany the 3rd Summit of the Council of Europe, summoned on 16-17 May in Warsaw, with heads of state and prime ministers from all over Europe.
As each year, the official celebration of the World Telecommunication Day is accompanied by what is called Evening Telecommunication Meetings, where persons and institutions with particular contribution to development of telecommunication, information technology and information society are traditionally honored with World Telecommunication Day Statuettes. During a special gala on 12 May, NASK’s Director Maciej Kozłowski presented the World Telecommunication Day 2005 Statuette to Antoni Szybis, the Secretary of Program 1, a channel of the Polish public broadcaster Polskie Radio.
This WTD 2005 Statuette for Program 1 is a token of recognition for what it has done to popularize safe Internet use. We wish to thank you in the first place for your invaluable support and commitment to promotion of the Safer Internet Day, which was held for the first time in Poland on 8 February this year. Thanks to the media support provided by Program 1, and with all the skill and professionalism contributed by Ms. Dorota Truszczak and her team of journalists who ensured an all-day coverage and broadcasts on the Safer Internet Day, we were able to reach a large audience nationwide with our information on the Polish edition of the European Awareness project – said Maciej Kozłowski, NASK’s Director.
In February this year, NASK initiated the European Awareness project together with the Nobody’s Children Foundation. The project’s objective is to build awareness of the existing network threats, to promote safe Internet content, and to minimize the scale of Internet-related danger. The project assumes a cooperation of non-government organizations, public welfare organizations and a large educational environment in a campaign for a safer Internet.
On 3 June 2005, a conference entitled Safe Internet will be held in Warsaw, the first of a cycle of conferences to be organized by NASK and the Nobody’s Children Foundation, together with local partners, in all Poland’s provincial capitals. |
