The title of the 13th conference on web security SECURE 2009 organised by NASK and the CERT Polska team affiliated with NASK reflects the “hot” issues related to the possibilities of filtering the traffic and blocking access to harmful content on the Internet.
The leading topic of the conference to be held on 20 and 21 October in Warsaw will be the discussion on the latest approaches to the issue of protection from technical threats and access to harmful content with the use of blocking and filtering mechanisms and the overview of solutions supporting the access control and elimination of potential threats. Krzysztof Silicki, Plenipotentiary for CERT Polska, commented on the issue: “In Europe, the role of telecommunication operators and content providers in ensuring security on the Internet has been discussed for years now. The application of a universal system of traffic filtration and making decisions on blocking access to dangerous Internet assets by these organisations would be a true revolution. Are we about to face such revolution? And if yes, then when could it happen and how?”
This year’s edition of the conference provides an opportunity to hear the experts’ opinions and learn about the latest experiences of Polish and international response teams. Participants will be able to engage in discussions (including an e-voting supported discussion panel on “Security, Protection, Precaution, Censorship”) about blocking security threats on the operator level and filtering illegal content. During the conference, also other important issues related to the security of information resources of the business and government sectors and combating crime in the areas of identity theft and attacks on e‑banking systems will be discussed. The agenda of the SECURE 2009 conference includes also such important issues as development of new tools for combating previously unknown threats or technical and organisational methods for improving security developed by organisations responsible for counteracting threats on the web.
From the perspective of the Internet security, an important issue is the co-operation between electronic communication users aimed at efficient reduction of technical and content-related threats (illegal and harmful content). Therefore, both national and international projects for the Internet security improvement will be presented. Cases of the most severe mass web attacks and their consequences with the analysis of dynamic changes in the type of threats and computer attack methods on the web will be also discussed at the conference. |
