Polish registry is a leader
NASK’s latest report, which includes a profile of the domain market in Q2 of this year, points out a significant fact: Poland is leading among the 10 largest European national registries with regard to domain name growth.

The .pl domain name registry achieved a growth of 28 per cent over the last year. The French registry is far behind with 21 per cent. The other registries reported much lower indicators, for example: Netherlands — 14 per cent, while Belgium and Italy — 13 per cent.

After the record-breaking first quarter of 2010, the number of new .pl domain registrations has stabilized. During that quarter, the DNS gained 235,848 new .pl domain names. Particularly noteworthy in Q2 2010 is the continued upward trend in the number of domain renewals: almost 59 per cent.

After long periods of decrease, it has been already the second quarter where the level of renewals has been growing. Overall, it is the first half-year period where subscribers’ attachment to their .pl domain names has been observed to grow. The second quarter was dominated by significant changes on the partner market. Active, smaller registrars slightly improved their positions at the expense of the existing leaders. At the same time, the popularity of the .pl domain increased as 11 new partners emerged. The share of foreign registrars is becoming especially conspicuous and could signify an international interest in the .pl brand as well as recognition of the technological and business level of solutions used by the Polish registry. Currently, 74 partners have their seat in Poland, 42 in Europe, and 20 in other parts of the world.
