Auction is a form of organization of competition that leads to the assignment and valuation of resources on the basis of information obtained from the decision makers interested in acquisition of resources. On one hand auction may serve as a solution to many problems of decentralized resource allocation. On the other, each format suffers from drawbacks that may negatively influence both efficiency of the outcomes and auctioneer's revenue. In this paper selected aspects of auction design are discussed.
