How We Built the ILO–NASK Index
The ILO–NASK Index was developed to better understand how generative AI may affect work at the task level. Building on the ILO’s 2023 Global Index of Occupational Exposure to Generative AI, we updated the methodology to reflect recent advances in AI technologies and the growing familiarity of workers with GenAI tools.
The index combines several sources of evidence. First, we analysed a representative sample of tasks from the Polish occupational classification system and collected detailed assessments of their automation potential through a large-scale survey of workers across all major occupational groups. We then compared these results with expert input, including survey responses and multiple rounds of Delphi-style discussions with an international panel of specialists.
This process allowed us to create a robust knowledge base on how individual tasks may be transformed by generative AI, going beyond country-specific context. Using this foundation, we developed an AI-assisted approach to estimate exposure scores for tasks described in the ISCO-08 classification.
The purpose of the ILO–NASK Index is not to predict the disappearance of jobs, but to identify where work is most likely to change. By linking the index with labour market data, researchers and policymakers can better assess which occupations are most exposed to GenAI and design informed responses to support workers through this transition.
